The Friends of White Plains Public Schools mourns the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Ann Edwards.
Ann was a stalwart supporter of White Plains schools and students for more than five decades, from her first PTA meeting in the 1960s until her participation in our February 2025 board meeting. She participated in PTA activities for 20 years, and served as president of the Highlands PTA and PTA Council.
In the 1980s Ann was as an elected member of the White Plains Board of Education and, for many years, she chaired the important City-School Joint Facilities Committee.
While actively engaged in volunteer work with a variety of important local organizations, most especially White Plains Hospital, Ann also joined the Friends to continue to contribute her ideas and support to White Plains public schools. With her passion for education and for helping people, her warmth, optimism and common sense, Ann served as role model for us all.
Many of us on the board have known and worked with Ann for 40 years or more, on PTAs, on the White Plains School Board, or on one of the many important organizations throughout White Plains to which she lent her time, her talents, and her support.
We will miss Ann's caring, her wisdom, her kindness, and her unrelenting desire to broaden the path to better lives for our children.
In Ann's honor, the Friends has established the Ann Edwards Memorial Fund to award grants specifically designed to further health care education.
